trackback spam

I’ve been getting so many requests to approve trackback spam that I’ve just turned off the trackback feature completely. Does anyone know a good way to automatically filter this stuff so I don’t have to look at the requests at all?

I’ve just built up a decent blacklist over time and it’s done a great job minimizing the trackback spam. There might be some good lists available out there or I could give you mine.

I still have days that are kind of bad, but if I catch it mid-attack, I can usually kill off any additional spam of the same variety.

Yeah, ditto. That’s all you can really do. And trackbacks are pretty cool, so it’d be nice to keep them.

We are currently using the Akismet spam filter, which sometimes eats legitimate comments, particularly those containing URLs. If you are having trouble getting a comment up, try splitting the URL into two parts, or failing that, email one of us. Note that we only deliberately block comments that appear to be spam.
