Machine-translated from the “Schoenes? Thailand” forum:

Which Bruno over Frodo says in such a way meets in some will coincidence also on me

Rear Schnacker, make for you not too much nen thick head, everyone must these “are I also like that?” Moment have, because there is ne quantity of Paralellen to have with the men the Asian friends, from Thailand to North Korea.

I had mean moment, when I am discovered a blog, in which a Japanese over its view on men write, who have a Japanese friend. Unfortunately I do not find the left any longer, at that time but I noted the most important points (with those some also to me to apply) more fuer to mean blog, did not gepostet her then however, because the whole topic somehow too negatively rueberkam:

1. The men came to Japan in a recent age and them come around this journey as part of the arising becoming to use.

2. They became acquainted with your wife in Japan and not in its homeland.

3. Most speaking very well Japanese, it prefer the society of Japanese, since they can impress these easily to be simply only thereby foreigners. They fall themselves into that learn the language.

4. Few of them had ever a western friend.

5 most of you has very negative stereotyped ones over western women.

6. however very positive opposite Japanese women, above all these is as feminine.

7. Many are arrogant and have large problems if their ideas and opinions are contradicted.

8. They may not other western foreigners and compare their language abilities and its cultural knowledge permanently with these over unterschwellig say them would be better.

Is to be become “gotten” always dumb and in generalizing Characteristika be recognized.

Interesting about also charisma one https://www.mutantfrog.com/2007/02/22/superman-meets-charisma-man/

  1. ”Which Bruno over Frodo says in such a way meets in some will coincidence also on me”
I don’t remember the part of Lord of the Rings with Bruno. Was it in the Silmarillion?

  2. Did you write 俺 in katakana because the new 常用漢字 list hasn’t officially gone into effect yet?

  3. There are people seriously arguing that machine translation for Japanese -> English will replace human translators in the next 5 years.

Although, “Few of them had ever a western friend.” is strangely mournfuly poetic.

    “オレの英語みたい。”

    No!

I couldn’t resist machine translating the above from English into Japanese. Some highlights –

    1. 人は最近の年齢の日本に来、この旅行使用に発生になることの一部として来る。 2. 彼らは日本とない故国のあなたの妻を知り合った。

    私は私が人の意見上の日本人が書くブログ発見されるとき中間の時を、持っている日本の友人を過した。

    それらの少数に西部の友人があった。

    興味深い Supercasanovaに日本で変異する喜劇的な終わるカナダの緩いの。

Of course, I just had to machine translate that back to English. This part –

“Many are arrogant and have large problems if their ideas and opinions are contradicted.”

    Becomes this –

“If thought and opinion are denied, haughtiness, there is a large problem in large number.”

    This –

“Most speaking very well Japanese, it prefer the society of Japanese, since they can impress these easily to be simply only thereby foreigners.”

    Becomes this –

“Because the foreigner simply just it is possible to impress these easily because is with that, thing Japanese which very most Japanese and speaks that well society is liked.”

  4. 5 years is ludicrous. 25 years is theoretically possible for much material where style isn’t important. The problem is that translation is not an area of computing where adding more computational power has a linear effect on performance-it’s a matter of a lack of theory and algorithms to create truly successful machine translation software. The only automatic translation I’ve used that produced generally comprehensible results was Korean to Japanese-which have more or less identical word order and grammatical structures and somewhere north of 50% shared vocabulary. And it was online newspaper articles.

  5. I’ve found some good matches with those ones that translate your words into pirate talk, myself….

I fondly remember the letter one of my profs in Japan wrote to a European colleague. He wrote it in Japanese, and machine-translated it. His salutation thus ran:
    “It begins it….”

    What HAS happened with Akismet?

  6. ”Did you write 俺 in katakana because the new 常用漢字 list hasn’t officially gone into effect yet?”

You still need a lot to learn Padawan!
    一人称のカタカナ表記は話者の含羞を表すときに使われることが多い・・・・・・。

  7. Akismet is still running. I just took out that math spam protection to see what effect it would have, and it hasn’t really had any discernible difference.

  8. Re maths filter: good. I hated those.

Incidentally, and I am not just being “anti-American” (I cannot stand the word “lorry” – nor like using single quotes for quotes) I always feel that the contraction of a plural (mathematics) should also be a plural (maths).

  9. Is there such a thing as “a mathematic”? According to dictionaries “mathematic” is just an adjective, not a singular noun. I think the “s” ending may be a red herring.

  10. 一人称のカタカナ表記は話者の含羞を表すときに使われることが多い・・・・・・。

Oh gee. And here I was thinking that the Japanese just used katakana to show their disdain for evil foreign words seeping into their language!

  11. “The only automatic translation I’ve used that produced generally comprehensible results was Korean to Japanese-which have more or less identical word order and grammatical structures and somewhere north of 50% shared vocabulary. And it was online newspaper articles.”

That could be pretty useful in my line of work. Do you have a link?

As a quick experiment, I just tried translating the first paragraph of this random article (http://www.asahi.com/national/update/0211/TKY200902110195.html) to Korean and then back to Japanese.

It’s certainly not perfect, but I think it easily does a better job than anything I’ve seen between English and any other language.

  13. Just to hijack briefly, I always understood Mathematics to be a collective term for the studies (note plural) of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus, and whatever else there is. The fact that the word may not have a singular does not mean it is not plural.

Hijack over. We return you to your regularly scheduled thread….

  14. “The fact that the word may not have a singular does not mean it is not plural.”

    I don’t buy it Jade.

In non-American English speaking nations, we don’t refer to maths in the plural (“maths is fun”, NOT “maths are fun”). And we don’t always refer to the studies (note plural) of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as “the sciences”. More often than not it is just the collective noun, “Science”. So perhaps the Americans are more consistent in this regard. Not right, just consistent.

But maybe not. There is always “politics”.

  15. “There is always “politics”.”

And the OED, which calls it a “plural noun.” Now, we may not treat it as a plural noun in everyday speech, but does that make it a singular?

  16. Bryce: “Oh gee. And here I was thinking that the Japanese just used katakana to show their disdain for evil foreign words seeping into their language!”

    And to name ninety-year-old women.

  17. That depends if you’re a prescriptive or descriptive linguist. Personally, I would argue that based on modern usage it should be considered a singular noun which is etymologically derived from a plural noun, and the OED should be updated to indicate that. Considering that the strength of the OED is how it shows how the usage and definitions of words change through time, that shouldn’t be a problem for them.

  18. While I understand the function of dictionaries is descriptive as well, I tend towards a prescriptive stance simply to be curmudgeonly and because otherwise that means “133t” and “txt” is English…..

  19. Well, the OED has a descriptive stance, and they also like to include slang that has staying power, although I don’t think they bother with ultra-local or very short lived slang words. I can certainly imagine an OED supplement someday that includes words like 1337 or txt.

  20. Yes, I thought of it before and looked it up. “Physic” is a real word, but its most common (yet archaic) usage in English is its meaning as a medical tonic, the connection of which to “physics” I am unclear. Unfortunately I do not have the OED handy, although I wish I did.

  21. Random House unabridged:

    physic
    /fiz”ik/, n., v., physicked, physicking.
    n.
    1. a medicine that purges; cathartic; laxative.
    2. any medicine; a drug or medicament.
    3. Archaic. the medical art or profession.

So I guess it comes from its usage as a synonym for the medical profession?

  22. “The word physician φύσις (physis) and its derived adjective physikos, meaning “nature” and “natural”. From this, amongst other derivatives came the Vulgar Latin physicus, which meant a medical practitioner. After the Norman Conquest, the word entered Middle English via Old French fisicien, as early as 1100. Originally, physician meant a practitioner of physic (pronounced with a hard C). This archaic noun had entered Middle English by 1300 (via Old French fisique). Physic meant the art or science of treatment with drugs or medications (as opposed to surgery), and was later used both as a verb and also to describe the medications themselves.”

So both “physics” and “physic/physician” come from the same original Greek word, but I believe they evolved separately as English words, and you cannot rightly say that “physic” is the singular of “physics”. Another one is “mechanics”. I think it is really looking like the “s” suffix denotes a scientific field in some fashion entirely unrelated to its function as a pluralizing suffix.

  23. Konninchiwa.)) Hi to everyone here. Glad to become member of your community.
I am elite watch collectioner from Japan. Maybe i didnt spend for it many years before, but now I really found in love with Swiss watch luxury world.
I have 10 original watches in my collection.
I want to find friends with same interests at your forum, and really interesting which brand do u like? What watch can reflect all richness of your personality?
    Wait for your answers, friends.

  24. Hey comrad, welcome to the community!

I don’t think anyone on this blog has EVER indicated an interest in “elite” watches, but I am flattered that our rich personalities made you think we were watch collectors like you. For your information, I am rocking a silver Casio “wave ceptor” with a satellite function so I don’t have to worry about it getting fast or slow.

  25. We have seen this before, is not it? Program governance institutions to boost car sales by offering car buyers a federal incentive to turn in an old car for a shiny new efficient method, leading to sales growth, resulting in later or no money in the program and the extension request.

  26. Acai grows in the Amazon of Dominant acaiand South America so it is unpropitious that you wishes take access to the fresh fruit in requital for juicing unless you abide there. Acai spoils post-haste and doesn’t again reap it to the US energetic so is convenient dried or pre-bottled juice. So as you can endure, I won’t be masterful to take round an acai berry juice modus operandi, but determination serving its healthiness benefits!

Acai berry vitality has been hyped up recently for having higher antioxidants and nutrition than other berries like blueberries, raspberry and blackberry. Studies suffer with not provided settled hold up of this claim. Nonetheless acai is apparently beneficial!

So what is in the acai berry juice?

    where to buy acai burn

Vitamins and minerals: Acai berry pith is an excellent begetter of vitamins B1, B2, B3 and E. Studies different as to how much vitamin C is in acai, but we can be assured some levels of vitamic C are present.

Potassium is the mineral found with most plentifulness in acai followed by means of calcium. Other minerals file magnesium, zinc, iron and copper. The copper content is unusually high fitted a fruit.

Amino Acids: Acai contains a miscellany of amino acids including Isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, valine, arginine, histidine, alanine, glycine, proline, serine, tyrosine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid.

Omega Fats: Acai berry pith contains a surprising amount of fat fitting for a fruit. Oppressive to half the fruit’s content is portly, and mostly unsaturated. Strong omega 3, 6 and 9 are present.

Anthocyanins: A experimentation ruminate on conducted in a Korean University in 2009 provided attestation that anthocyanins had inhibitory properties championing the development of colon cancer. Other studies accompany anthocyanins to be struck by antioxidant properties to preserve cells from liberated natural damage. Furthermore, anthoyanins may assist slim down the risk of quintessence disease. Fortunately acai berry extract is a great informant of anthocyanins.

Acai and force loss: In private I have not seen adequate evidence that acai abandoned can domestics in weight loss. There are stacks of acai supplements on the grid claiming acai can refrain from you lose pressure, but most seems sketchy at best. David Grotto, RD, maker of 101 Foods That Could Salvage Your Person says “Acai is a nutrient-rich source of antioxidants, much like profuse other fruits, but there is nothing magical in the matter of the fruit to genesis onus disadvantage”. With dialect heft wasting being on so many people minds, it is no miracle people are troublesome to liquidate in on acai’s plausible – but not in every respect convincing- onus loss benefits.

One last note: Be punctilious when looking on the side of acai products. For event, most of the acai berry force on the stock exchange today contains a acutely rude share of verified acai berry juice. I would recommend doing a teeny-weeny fact-finding forward of buying acai products to ensure you are getting the highest je sais quoi and sum of this alimentary berry.
