To me the “West” means the English-speaking world

I speak English and Japanese, but not French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian or any other Western language. So when you hear me talk about the “Western media” I am basically talking about sources from English-speaking world or occasionally English language services of “Western” publications. Just wanted you to know that.

What brought that on? Did somebody complain?

No, but I was watching French news and realized that they have a different perspective that I don’t really take into account when I think about the West.

I do hate to be a bore, but even if we take your ‘English Language’ definition, is there really such a thing as the “Western Media”? Given the comments to the previous post, I don’t think we can really take it for granted that there is such a monolithic entity within the United States (and Britain) that deserves the title.
The same applies to French and other media including ‘Western (English language) media” in Australia, New Zealand, India, etc., etc., etc.

Perhaps you should just refer specifically to the sources you cite rather than use this “Western” label.

Thanks for the comment Bryce. I admit it’s a terrible definition. My post is basically just what has run through my mind when I think of the Western Media. Comments like yours were essentially what I was hoping for.
