At a speech in Saitama City, the embattled LDP Secretary General Tsutomu Takebe, who is being blamed for his outpouring of support for ex-Livedoor president Takafumi Horie during the September 2005 Lower House election, let people know that he had to tell his grandchildren that he is in fact NOT Horie’s brother, despite saying so at a speech at the time.

I wonder if that was just one of Takabe’s ways of defusing the situation with humor. He’s a pretty funny guy, and since he and many others in the LDP are taking lots of flack right now, he’s just trying to lighten the situation.

Yes, the “偉大なるイエスマン” comment was pretty funny too.

One of the reasons I like ZAKZAK is that they routinely put stuff like this online, while Asahi/Nikkei etc tend to let it rot on the print newspaper. Helps keep exiles like myself connected.

And about Horie’s “butt service”—I really didn’t need to hear about that man getting an anal probe. Muneo, on the other hand, I can deal with.

[...] I’m friends with all the boys at MutantFrog, and their stuff from the past few days has been even more awesome than usual. So here’s an introduction for those of you who aren’t regular readers. All have a background in East Asia with a focus on Japan. They’re based across the globe: Adamu and Saru are in the US, Roy is in Taiwan, and Joe is in Japan. All have professional expertise to boot: Roy gives us the lowdown on unusual topics of interest and beautiful photography; Saru is the econ guru; Joe focuses on law topics and Adamu, a translator by trade, writes about everything else (lots of juicy current event analysis). Educational and entertaining in one healthy dose, it’s probably the best East Asian blog around. What say you? [...]

[...] During last year’s general election, LDP Secretary General Tsutomu Takebe enthusiastically held up Horie as “my brother.” After the Livedoor scandal was discovered, he has been actively maintaining “distance” from him, but Muneo points out, “At the press conference after the raid started, Takebe acted like Horie was a stranger, saying, ‘I want to see the investigating authorities carry out a strict and impartial investigation.’ I thought those were some stone cold politics.” He emphasized, “The image was that rich people are the golden boys of reform, but I think that this is an opportunity for people to eventually have a sense that the values of backbreaking work and equitable distribution are important.” [...]
